Sports which grew and flourished in the nineteen twenties due to unprecedented publicity and promotion included baseball, tennis, golf, swimming, football and boxing. Newspapers, magazines, radio and movies all played a role in boosting the profile of sport and the sporting giants. Sports became one of the best past times for America.

The momentum these sports built up in the 1920's has ensured that these sports have endured in popularity to the present day. Present day sporting stars are often compared to the greats of the 1920's and great publicity attends the player who exceeds the records set 80 years ago, ensuring our old heroes are not forgotten. Pilgrimages are made to the various halls of fame where the 1920's giants are immortalized in memorials and collections of memorabilia that showcase their careers. If it wasn’t for the radio broadcasts, sports wouldn’t be as popular as they were. The radio broadcasts gave those the ability to listen to games when they aren’t able to watch a sporting event in person.

Olympics
The 1920’s Olympics was a very hard one to orchestrate. Due to the destruction that World War 1 brought upon middle Europe, most of the buildings were destroyed. The War left a lasting impact upon the Olympic games, deeming this olympic games as one of the ugliest settings for the event to take place.

Babe Ruth
In 1920, Babe Ruth was traded to the New York Yankees, to everyone’s surprise. No one could believe that Babe Ruth was just traded. Babe Ruth was an extremely popular baseball player. He just seemed to succeed at everything on the baseball field. In 1920, he broke his own home run record and hit an amazing 54 home runs in one season. He is considered to be one of the best of all time, if not the best entirely.
Babe Ruth was apart of the best baseball team of all time, due to his team's incredible play and his ability to hit home runs. He was able to snatch an incredible 60 home runs in a single season, having over 714 in his entire career. Off the baseball diamond, Ruth was incredibly into pop culture. Many thought of Ruth as a vulgar, young man who was always doing something inappropriate. He is the Johnny Manziel of his time. Many said that Babe acted the way he did because he didn’t have a good childhood, and this was his part in growing up. |
